Established House Builders in Haywards Heath and the South East

Charles Linton undertook a large (6.5 month) project for us, involving a small double storey demolition of a prior side extension, replacement with a 2 up, 2 down extension including family bathroom, bedroom, en-suite bathroom, utility room and boot room. They then converted a very tired barn annex into a great new kitchen, and dug up, replaced and extended the whole patio. This started in mid-January when they were demolishing the old extension and digging out new footings, and it just didn’t stop raining – almost literally every day for 3 months! I could not believe they stuck meticulously to both the budget and the timeframe – no delays at all despite the horrific weather conditions!

The keys to the success of Charles Linton are, firstly, Dan’s ability to quote keenly and comprehensively. Beyond the things I added myself after the initial tender, there were no extra expenses. Secondly, Dan’s ability to consistently employ really high quality tradesmen who are not only very good and efficient at their job, they’re also a pleasure to have around! Given the size and scope of the work required, we had many different guys in and around the house and honestly I couldn’t fault any of them. I’ve had a fair bit of experience with tradesmen in the past, so was very surprised as to how good this experience was! Dan’s ability to stay on top of everything that is going on is also impressive – he was aware of all the detail even before I mentioned anything. Everything Dan said or proposed, he delivered on. There is a very high focus on customer satisfaction.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Charles Linton to anyone considering home improvements / building projects. I was expecting a lot of stress and disruption, particularly as we were still living in the property, but Charles Linton’s professionalism was able to keep this to an absolute minimum, far exceeding my expectations. I’d be very happy to act as a reference if any prospective client needs more information.

We have had the best experience with Charles Linton. Jamie and his colleagues have just completed our bathroom renovation and the finish is impeccable. We are so happy with how they brought a Ripples Lindfield design to life. We could see that even the designer, Carrie, was impressed and pleased. She didn't stop smiling! The whole team are clearly very experienced. They were polite, good natured, hard working perfectionists. They even worked throughout the heat wave without complaint. They were all respectful of our home and kept the place clean and tidy. Liaising with Dan and the office was easy. They are supremely organised and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. We're going to miss seeing them every morning! Charles Linton's reputation is already good locally but if you're not sure whether to use them we'd be very happy to provide a reference.

We recently hired Charles Linton Construction for a major project, including a single-story rear extension, a large loft conversion, and full house renovations. We could not be happier with the results, we all cannot believe this is now our home.

From start to finish, the standard of workmanship has been excellent. Communication throughout the entire project was fantastic; we were always kept informed and up to date. The team on-site were a lovely group of workers who were honest, reliable, and incredibly hard-working. Nothing was ever too much bother for them.

A huge bonus was how respectful they were to our neighbours, which made a stressful process so much easier. We would highly recommend Charles Linton Construction to anyone looking for trustworthy, high-quality builders.

I can’t thank Dan, Sally and the whole team at Charles Linton enough for making our vision come to life. We completed a two storey side extension front extension plus a single storey extension out the back. Charles Linton stepped up for us when we originally had another builder booked for the project, and I couldn’t thank them enough for that! Right from the get go, Dan bent over backwards for us!

From our initial contact, Dan was out to see the property very quickly. He explained the process, how they work and next steps. The project was huge and we were quite nervous but Dan put us at ease straight away. We received an extremely detailed estimate within two weeks which made us feel confident that they knew that they were doing. We were also able to visit a couple of their clients to see more of their work. Everyone gave them the highest reviews. Dan met with us a couple of times before we started to ensure we were happy with all the paperwork and to answer any questions we had (we had a lot!).

Over the course of the build, the whole team were polite, friendly and answered all questions. Dan, who isn’t always on site, is always on the phone and responds super quickly to any messages. It was also great to know Sally is also just a phone call or email away too. The site was always left clean and tidy by everyone. Even when we asked the guys onsite to make a few tweaks here and there to the design, the team were always obliging and happy to do it!

They follow a regimented process for the build and get your approval and sign off, each step of the way. I was consulted on lots of key decisions and Dan would share regular updates on progress. If a delay did occur, Dan always had a plan in place and would let us know what’s happening (mainly from the weather)!
We lived in the build for as long as we could and the team did as much as possible to keep us up and running until we moved out. They made us a makeshift kitchen in our lounge and boarded areas back up at night with insulation to try and keep us warm during a very cold February.

We did experience several challenges throughout the build, from a hidden ground pipe to a dodgy electrician (not Charles Linton I might add) but Dan got us through each step and tried his best to help us out where he could. The quality of work is fantastic – they’ve got an exceptional team of builders, carpenters and plumbers paired with a great team of contractors. The roofers, plasterers and electricians were all brilliant.

Over the final 6 months, we had our snag list sorted and even when that time was up, we’ve still been able to contact them if anything’s cropped up. Even after the build, we’ve felt fully supported.

Finally, budget – Charles Linton provide a very specific breakdown of all costs right at the start and apart from a couple of unforeseen bits that cropped up (like a hidden ground pipe) we finished right on budget. Dan is always very fair and transparent with costs, nothing is ever hidden and there weren’t any surprises!

I’m so grateful that Charles Linton ended up being our builders. I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me and my family. We hosted our very first Christmas in our brand-new house and can’t wait to make more memories! Thanks so much to the Charles Linton team! Would definitely recommend to anyone and use them again!

We really couldn't have been happier with the work that Dan and the amazing team at Charles Linton did with our two-storey side extension, porch extension, garden landscaping and front steps redesign.

From the very start they were great at communicating, always organised and easy to discuss the different design and material options with. They had plenty of solid advice but we never felt pressured into any decisions. During the 8 months of building work they were a absolute pleasure to have around, they were meticulous with their craftsmanship, and always tidied up after each day. When occasionally we wanted to make slight alterations to the design during the build they were always able to be adaptable and worked hard to help us find good solutions within our budget.

Their core construction team are all highly skilled and work with an amazing attention to detail. For all of the external contractors they work with (for glazing/window frames/plastering/flooring etc) Dan has done well to pick trusted experts, ensuring that the finished product is to the high standards that Charles Linton maintain for all of their own work.

Following the main renovation work Dan and the team have been excellent at following up on the inevitable snags and fine tuning that's to expected after such a large project. We're extremely pleased to have found Charles Linton, and would highly recommend them to anyone planning an important building or renovation project.
